Tony Jaa - Out of the Jungle [movies]

By: Grimbil · August 7, 2008

If you haven’t heard of Tony Jaa, you’re missing out on one of the best martial artists of our generation. Sure, Jet Li and Jackie Chan have more popular appeal, but honestly, I can’t stand watching Jet Li because of all the constant camera cuts, and Jackie Chan is just too nice…he can’t look tough. I mean, I’m sure Jet Li really can kick a ball out of a pool table pocket, jump in the air, then roundhouse kick it into someone’s face, but if you do that with 3 seperate shots, you can make anyone appear to do it. I’ll pass.

Tony Jaa exploded onto the scene back in 2003 with his internationally acclaimed movie, Ong Bak. No wires. No stunt doubles. No CGI. Just Tony Jaa kicking some serious ass, and without all the silly camera cuts.

Shortly after hearing Jaa was making Ong Bak 2, my excitement was quickly squelched as I heard that he had disappeared following some disputes around the sequel. Granted, it’s hard to be too angry at a martial arts specialist who goes out into the jungle to meditate when he’s pissed off, but still….no Tony Jaa, no Ong Bak 2!

Then just other day, we got word that Jaa is back and looking to finish the film. Huzzah! More head smashing elbows, more chest collapsing knee strikes from 10 feet away, and more flaming 720 degree roundhouse kicks to the face. Take that Chuck Norris! Check out the trailer below.

Hell, yeah, Tony Jaa! That trailer had quite the multitude of bone-cracking sounds.

Sidenote: The Protector was one of the most entertaining and confounding experiences of my life.

Somehow, I missed that movie, Marie. Confounding, huh? I must go back and take a look, I’ve heard good things about it.

Mr. Anon, as far as the 3 section staff being a “joke”….uh, I’m no martial arts expert, which would probably make whatever I do a “joke”. However, I think it might be a little harsh to judge his skill after a 3 second, editted clip, don’t you think?
