Draft!: Star Wars, the Expanded Universe: Round 3 [draft]

By: Y · October 29, 2008

E: Is like I said, that SNES side scrolling game, that was simply called Star Wars, that ruled.

JC: I’ll take Lego Star Wars. It’s loved by the mainstream gaming community (except me) and launched various Lego titles. It’s a fuckin’ ATM.

SN: Episode 1 Podracer for N64 wasn’t too bad. I mean, it kind of sucked but it’s all I’ve got.

Y: I’m going to take the Hand of Thrawn duology from Zahn. Not as good as the first Zahn Trilogy, but way better than anything else. Luke gets married! Come on, how could that be bad?

Grimbil: Ah, cool. I’m going to show my geek seniority (age) here….

Growing up, my parents wouldn’t let me have an Atari. However, another kid in the neighborhood had one, and frequently, on the pretense of riding our bikes (big wheels?), we went over to his house to play Pitfall, Combat, or any other number of games on that early system. My favorite tho was always Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back. Looking back at videos of it now, it looks painfully easy, but back when I was 6 or 7 years old it was brutally hard.

It consisted of you in a pixelated snowspeeder zooming around the screen as an endless number of AT-ATs marched across the screen…there was a single pixel you had to shoot at the right time which appeared randomly on the AT-AT, and damn, it was tough! It was by far my favorite tho, and it still holds a special place in my geeky little heart.

LD: Sure. And fuck it, I’ll bite the bullet:
The Star Wars Holiday Special. I tried to watch it once and made it like 4 minutes in. It was embarrassing to watch. But, there’s probably nothing that’s more like a sobering splash of cold water to the face of a Star Wars fan than this disaster. Congratulations, virgins. You found the one thing that makes World of Warcraft seem like being a professional athlete in the eyes of the women. Expanded universe my ass.

E, I’m devastated that you didn’t take “Truce at Bakura.”

We did this draft long before we had that pow wow about novels by email.

As much as I love Super Star Wars, Super Empire Strikes Back was better. And still one of the hardest games I ever beat.
