Anniversary: The Geekiest thing Y has ever done

By: Y · November 18, 2008

I am going to make this quick so that it is over soon. When I was in high school, I was a debater. And…I played…Magic the Gathering (/sigh of embarassment). I believe that the geekiest thing I ever did was to play Magic (with N8 and others) while I was supposed to be participating in debate practice. Then, when the debate coach caught us, we were punished, and couldn’t go to the next tournament. To repeat, I skipped out on debate practice to play Magic: the Gathering.

As someone how joined you in this pastime, I honestly think it may be the geekiest thing we’ve ever done. My post notwithstanding, I think the kind of drooling we did over a “good card” and the heated arguments we had (actual rage) over the rules of that game… not to mention the money and the fact that we went about it in the shadows during school, hiding it like the dirty secret that it was… yeah, it has to be the geekiest thing we did in an ongoing way, just by itself.

And being punished by taking debate away? I don’t even want to think about the geekiness of a psyche that would find not-having-to-debate extremely aversive (which we did).
