Podcasts I listen to
So, E and I listen to a lot of podcasts. I’m pretty sure that his friends are tired of hearing about them. So I though I’d list the ones I listen to, so they can be annoyed at me.
This American Life - The juggernaut of public radio. Well produced, with a variety of contributors. It’s a great podcast, that usually has several stories on a related theme. Highly recommended.
The Sound of Young America - Jesse Thorn is called “America’s Radio Sweetheart” by himself (and I assume others). The guy is amazingly younger than I am, and seems tailor made for being a public radio interviewer. He consistently has great subjects, and the interviews are usually interesting and amusing. I don’t listen to every interview, but when the interview subject interests me, it’s well worth my time.
Fresh Air - If you’ve ever listened to NPR, then you know this program. The long form interview is a dying art, but Terry Gross keeps it going (along with Charlie Rose, who unfortunately doesn’t have a podcast).
Wait Wait…Don’t Tell Me - Weekly “news quiz” show, which is simply a hilarious program that involves questions.
/Filmcast - The /Filmcast is a decent podcast by some up and coming film reviewers who work for www.slashfilm.com. The podcast usually has a decent guest or two, they talk about what they’ve seen recently, then talk about movie news, then review a film. The films covered are usually more pop-culture-esque than I’d like, not because these guys don’t see the artsy/indie films, but they don’t always review them. E and I amazingly disagree with these guys frequently, but somehow I still enjoy the podcast.
Filmspotting - This is an AWESOME podcast. These guys talk about a ton of films, and delve deeper into the artsy/indie films. Dorky to the nth degree, these guys know what they are talking about and are a pleasure to listen to.
I love Movies - I couldn’t actually find a website for this one, so you’ll just have to find it on iTunes. Doug Benson hosts two guests, and just generally discusses movies. Quite amusing. Broadcast schedule is amazingly inconsistent though.
Never Not Funny - I listen to the free podcast that’s a half hour of Jimmy Pardo interviewing a guest. But it’s not an interview, it’s just free form jokes. And it’s usually funny. You have to like Jimmy Pardo’s comedy, though.
Giant Bombcast - I play video games. A lot of video games, way too much, actually. But anyway, I listen to these guys talk about video games. They know a lot about the industry, and are pretty funny.
All Songs Considered - Solid way of discovering new music. Sometimes a little behind the curve that I’m on, but still pretty good.
Baseball HQ - I love baseball. Baseball HQ is a great source of fantasy information, and Baseball HQ Radio is their weekly podcast that is broadcast during the baseball season.
Diggnation - Kevin Rose is the founder of Digg.com, and Alex Albrecht is, uh, this guy that is on podcasts and is an actor, and, well, I’m not really sure what Alex does, but he’s definitely a hardworking guy. Diggnation is these two guys sitting on a couch, drinking beer, and talking about some popular stories on digg.com. It’s a half hour, not serious, and very light fair.
The Totally Rad Show - My favorite podcast right now. It’s a TV show, where three guys (the aforementioned Alex Albrecht, see, I told you that he was hardworking), commercial director Dan Trachtenberg, and actor Jeff Cannatta (and I believe that the three of them met at a D&D game). They review a movie or two, review a video game or two, and talk about other things such as TV shows and comic books. They have a great rapport, and provide solid insights into their topics. Also, if you’re lucky, you’ll get a segment of “Dan becomes a man.” You see, Dan is much younger than the other two, and they occasionally get to teach him things that he hasn’t done before, such as drinking tea or putting up Christmas lights. It’s much funnier than it sounds. Anyway, I love this podcast.
So those are my weekly podcast offerings. I think of it as radio, except I don’t have a radio. I don’t recommend that you listen to this many podcasts a week, though, because my time is getting constrained.

For the record, I also listen to:
Spoutblog: Filmcouch podcast
Scene Unseen Podcast
This Week podcast
PTI podcast (same as the show)
